Tuesday 9th February 2021
Well we need an early start today as the Main Range loop trail including Kosciuszko Summit is 22km without any side tracks. So we were organised early and on our way by 7.45am. We had an hour drive to Charlotte’s Pass where the walk begins. Should be on the track by about 9am. Yeehah us!!
We spent an amazing 7 hours and 20 minutes walking the 24km Main Range loop from Charlotte Pass, with a side track to Blue Lake and Mt Kosciuszko summit. We passed Mt Townsend in the distance (another adventure to be had there), Lake Albina and walked via Rawsons Pass back to the start at Charlotte Pass.
We then drove back to our home at East Jindabyne for a lovely evening with Alice. We so love being back walking in the wilderness.

Alice and Fiona head down the paved pathway towards the Snowy River..
-
-
..and our first river crossing for the day…
-
-
..it was so peaceful and boy were we all happy to be back in the National Park..
-

-
-
Alice and Fiona on the same rock..
-
-
..Heading up a little incline on the amazing paved pathways..
-
-
Oooppsss! The mist rolled in andn unfortuately we missed this view..
-
-
..but Alice managed a relax on the spongey grass. It would have been a perfect spot for yoga had there not been another 6ish hours of hiking to go.
-
-
Down another great pathway..
-
-
..then along a metal boardwalk, to reduce the damage and impact our footprints have in the National Park.
-
-
Still a few flowers about.
-
-
Enjoying the beauty as we walk sure-footedly along the boardwalk.
-
-
A little single trail for us to navigate..
-
-
..still a very easy walk..
-
-
Lake Albina, Very beautiful..
-
-
..and again – Lake Albina, Kosciuszko National Park
-
-
Some more flowers..
-
-
..as we walk further along the single trail. We have only seen about 8 people along the track in the first 13km.
-
-
Now as we head up the summit trail we pass about 5 groups of 30 students per group and numerous others as we approach the summit.

-
Mt Kosciuszko information

A rest at the top 2228m above sea level.

-
Alice relaxing in her lounge chair as we have a chat and enjoy the view.

-
The summit of Mt Kosciuszko
-
-
A flock of black crows took off over the summit. It was quite amazing to witness.
-
-
David as always finds a rock to enjoy the view.
-
-
Heading off on the remaining 9km through Rawson Pass..
-
-
We come across Seaman’s Hut, an alpine hut and memorial, built following the death of two skiers, W. Laurie Seaman and Evan Hayes in 1928.
-
-
Seaman’s family built the hut to provide shelter to future users of the park, in order to prevent recurrence of a similar tragedy.
-
-
Information about the tragedy.

..we again cross the Snowy River but this time over a little bridge..
-
-
..the beauty of the wilderness is boundless. I look forward to coming back in the spring when the wildflowers will be abundant and the snowcaps will be on the peaks.
-
-
A couple of healthy skinks as we get to the end of the trail.
-
-
This gum tree had the most amazing silver colour on the inner trunk..
-
-
..another gorgeous tree. My favourite past time in the wilderness. The last few minutes of our walk.
