Today we decided to explore the North End of Kosciuszko National Park via Alpine Way, back through Adaminiby (where we would have stayed the night if accommodation was available), along Snowy Mountains Hwy to Coolamine Homestead and via Long Plain Road to Clarke’s Gorge and Blue Waterholes campground.
We had a lovely drive and walk in the National Park and then headed to the Yarrangobilly Caves but unfortunately we couldn’t go in the caves as they had suffered flooding in the 100mm downpour last Friday. So we will leave this until next time.
We headed home the same way and didn’t get home to the caravan park until after 7pm. So another long day.
- It was another beautiful morning at Lake Jindabyne…
- ..as we drove through the beautiful countryside of Adaminiby…
- ..the trees were just starting to show signs of growth after the devastating damage of the fires..
- ..the colours along the plains, with the..
- ..dead snow gums on the hilltop..
- ..were beautiful all the same.
- We saw some wild brumbies at the re-entrance to the Kosciuszko National Park..
- ..they were such beautiful healthy specimens..
- The plains just south of Yarrangobilly..
- ..the dirt track as we head further in to the National Park..
- ..seemed to get narrower the further we drove.
- On the way we came to Coolamine Homestead which is located between Cooleman Mountain and Blue Waterholes campgrounds, along Blue Waterholes trail…
- …Set among grassland and snow gums, ..
- …the homestead’s collection of buildings..
- ..showcase different building styles from the late 1800s…
- ..It was lovely to explore..
- ..the old buildings..
- ..at the homestead..
- ..The inner walls of the main residence, Campbell House, are lined with old newspapers…
- ..Take your time to read the news stories from the early to mid 1900s…
- ..these pages are from 1939.
- The start of Clarke’s Gorge..
- ..we started the first crossing with removing our shoes and putting our shoes back on the other side…
- Shoes on again, as we test..
- ..the rocks but they were too slippery..
- ..so off the shoes come off again..
- ..the rocks were still very slippery even with bare feet.
- After removing our shoes at the first couple of crossings we ended up just walking through with our shoes on as we had seven crossings each way. It was very squelchy but a lot quicker this way.
- A little rest at the waterfall at the end of the gorge..
- ..the water was flowing very fast..
- ..it was hard to capture in a photo..
- A lovely waterfall..
- ..it would have been a nice place to have a little dip if the water wasn’t so cold.
- ..a little scramble up from the base of the waterfall.
- Heading back along the gorge trail..
- ..also required some climbing..
- ..and navigating the cliff face.
- Beautiful brumbies as we left the National Park.
- Jindabyne to Blue Waterholes return 308km drive, with 5.4km walk in Clarke’s Gorge. A great Broady Tour.
